Voices from the Field

Right now, we are living in a critical moment for change. The COVID-19 pandemic, racial reckoning, and economic recession exacerbate and elevate the need to transform education and youth-serving systems. Young people, families, and communities are demanding systems that are designed for equity and aligned with the science of learning and development.

It is within this current context that we asked educators, young people, and community educators two important questions:

  1. What does success look like this year?
  2. What is the most critical thing to achieve in education and youth-serving systems this year?

Their answers ranged from a need to be flexible, to a need to focus on caring relationships, to a need to simply take a day off if they need it – and everywhere in between.
